Description
History Pockets - Native Americans

In History Pockets—Native Americans you’ll find nine memorable discovery pockets. Your student will make a fun and attractive "book" that contains several pockets over flowing with information learned and activities completed. The introduction pocket gives an overview of the tribes in North America that are featured. The other pockets focus on food, clothing, shelter, and family life of eight Native American tribes.

The book includes the following pockets: · Introduction to Native Americans—map, chart, picture dictionary · The Inuit of the Arctic—ice fishing and igluviaks · The Tlingit of the Northwest—potlatch masks and totem poles · The Nez Perce of the Plateau—appaloosas and Chief Joseph · The Maidu of California—seed beaters and bear rattles · The Sioux of the Plains—buffalo and beaded ankle bands · The Navajo of the Southwest—silver jewelry and rugs · The Iroquois of the Northeast—“The Three Sisters” and wampum · The Seminole of the Southeast—headdresses and hominy.

In each of the pockets, you will find the following: · a reproducible pocket label · three dictionary words and pictures, plus a shelter stamp · a fact sheet of background information for the teacher · a reproducible students information booklet complete with illustrations · arts and crafts projects, plus writing activities. Evaluation forms are provided at the end of the book to give students a chance to reflect on all they have learned. The pocket pages are reproducible for family use. Therefore only one book is needed to teach several children. We recommend this pocket book for ages 5-8.
